Experience our anniversary live

VENUE: Academy of the Arts at Pariser Platz (in person and livestream) 11:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

Although the Copyright Act has been implemented, the practical implementation is not completed yet. Additionally, new problems are already arising, creating pressure to act. E-lending in particular is a pressing issue that requires a fair solution, while demands for fair compensation in the area of streaming for those without whom the world would stand still – namely authors and performing artists – are also growing louder.

Matthias Hornschuh, composer and spokesman for IU creatives, extends the following invitation: “At the 10th Initiative Urheberrecht Conference, we will look for future-oriented solutions for the Internet of today and discuss these with political decision-makers without ignoring the analogue space. We will also take a look back on 20 years of copyright contract law. Although this important instrument was also amended in 2021, many questions remain unanswered and many a blunt sword still needs sharpening.”

“Demand for appropriate and proportionate remuneration for authors and performing artists is an important ongoing topic that has been addressed repeatedly by Initiative Urheberrecht and was the factor that brought together associations and trade unions in the cultural sector 22 years ago. As different as their individual orientations may be, we are united by the common goal of achieving improvements for professional artists. They are at the beginning of the value chain and without them there would be no art or culture in Germany, Europe and the world”, emphasises Katharina Uppenbrink, Managing Director of Initiative Urheberrecht.

Initiative Urheberrecht (Authors’ Rights Initiative), which represents approximately 140,000 authors and performing artists via its 42 organisations, will once again vigorously support the discussions on these topics through the 10th Conference on Authors’ Rights and make corresponding policy demands.

The event will take place live on 21 November 2022 at the Academy of Arts in compliance with all applicable hygiene regulations as of November 2022 and will also be broadcast online.

  • Registration opens at the beginning of October.
  • Plans are also in place to offer synchronous translation (DE-EN-DE).
  • The programme will be published shortly.
